An original Skat deck of the Leipzig tradition, issued in 1897 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Leipzig Trade Fair (Privilege 1497).
This deck exemplifies the high printing and design standards of the German Imperial era.
Designed by Arthur Lewin (1860–1923) and produced by Carl Schneider & Co., Altenburg.
The original tax stamp
“DEUTSCHES REICH No. 90 – DREISSIG PF.”
(valid 1889–1903, reference Endebrock) allows a precise historical dating to the late Imperial period.
Fine gilt edges, the traditional German suits, and the black/red/white checkered back design reflect the refined aesthetics of the 1890s.
