The historical quartet game “Eroberer der Erde” by F.X. Schmid, Munich, is dedicated to famous explorers and research travellers from world history. Its black-and-white photographs offer a characteristic mid-20th-century view of figures such as Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan and Roald Amundsen.
The edition belongs to the well-known “Quartett-Bibliothek der Unterhaltung und des Wissens” series, in which F.X. Schmid combined entertainment with educational content. Today, the game is therefore not only of interest from a playing-card history perspective, but also as a fascinating historical document relating to exploration, travel and expedition history.
