This historic advertising Skat deck dates from the early 1930s and was produced by the renowned Vereinigte Altenburger und Stralsunder Spielkartenfabriken A.G., Altenburg (Thuringia).
The deck carries the original “Deutsches Reich Nr. 90” tax stamp, a typical hallmark of playing cards from this period. With its elegant lion emblem “Feinste Doppelbilder-Karte” (Finest Double-Figure Card), it represents the high quality of German printing craftsmanship and playing card culture.
The cards show a Saxon double-figure design with finely colored suits – hearts, bells, acorns, and leaves – whose style can clearly be attributed to the 1930s. The card backs feature the distinctive advertising design of the company Xaver Florentz Wwe., Chemnitz-Altendorf, which celebrated its 50th company anniversary in 1933.
At the time, the set was produced as a promotional company gift, combining playing card tradition, craftsmanship, and advertising history in a charming way.
The cards are overall in good condition.
Some cards show slight separation on the backs, where the upper layer gently lifts from the carrier layer – a typical age-related feature of early multi-layer laminated playing cards. The subtle patina adds authentic vintage character and makes this deck a distinctive historical piece.
