An authentic piece of East German playing card history – preserved in remarkably beautiful condition.
This original Skat deck with French suit was produced by the VEB Altenburger Spielkartenfabrik in 1972. The cards carry the well-known COEUR crown, the trademark symbol of Altenburg playing cards from the early 1970s.
The original tuck box in the typical magenta and white design features the inscription “Eine Altenburger Spielkarte” – a classic example of DDR graphic design. The box is original, clean, stable and undamaged, appearing almost like new. Decks preserved in this condition are rarely found today.
The cards themselves are complete and virtually unused, showing the beautiful silky surface finish typical of high-quality Altenburg printing.
The French court design (Jack, Queen, King, Ace) is brilliantly colored, sharply printed and reflects the elegant graphic style of the 1970s.
A particularly distinctive feature is the card back design in warm orange, decorated with a delicate ornamental medallion pattern – a striking retro aesthetic that combines nostalgia and design quality.
