A rare piece of Central European playing-card history: this original 32-card Mariáš deck was produced by Ferd. Piatnik & Söhne, Ritter & Co., Prague, most likely during the 1920s.
More than a simple card game, this deck reflects a period when Mariáš was the most popular card game in Czechoslovakia, played in cafés, taverns and family circles. Today such early Prague-produced decks are sought-after collectibles representing the long tradition of Central European playing-card manufacture.
Complete 32-card German-suited deck (Acorns, Leaves, Hearts, Bells)
Classic card size: approx. 62 × 103 mm
Authentic Piatnik trademarks: the red “lion/bear” mark and the winged dog holding playing cards
Card backs with detailed blue ornamental pattern
Beautiful age patina with light signs of use and small creases – each card carries the charm of genuine historical use
