Production: around 1900, late German Empire period

Maker: Vereinigte Stralsunder Spielkarten-Fabriken A.G., Altenburg division

Version: “Superfeine Schwerdter Karte”

Pattern: Saxon pattern

32 cards, single-ended design with German suits

Size: approx. 63 × 98 mm

Tax stamp: historical German Reich tax stamp preserved on the card, but clearly faded due to age and only partially visible

Card backs: checked pattern in green, black and reddish-brown tones

Rounded corners

High-quality lithographic printing, detailed and richly coloured

Period-typical condition with visible age patina

The cards show age-related signs of use, light soiling, minor rubbing and traces of earlier handling

Some edges and corners show small age-related signs of wear, consistent with the considerable age of the deck

Despite the visible patina, the colours and illustrations remain decorative and expressive

Overall, an authentically preserved collector’s item with strong historical appeal

The card deck is supplied in a neutral white cardboard slipcase for protection and decorative presentation

An authentic and decorative piece of playing card history from Altenburg. The combination of Saxon pattern, fine lithographic printing, faded historical tax stamp and checked card back makes this deck an attractive witness to German playing card culture around 1900.

The visible signs of age underline the original character of this card deck. This is not a flawless playing deck, but an honest, historically grown collector’s item with strong visual presence and documentary appeal.

A beautiful one-of-a-kind piece for collectors of antique playing cards, lovers of historical printmaking or as a cultural-historical object from the late German Empire period.
