This handcrafted playing card press dates to the 1890s, a period when card players treated their decks with great care. Presses of this type were commonly used to gently flatten and protect playing cards after repeated use. Today, such objects represent both functional tools and authentic artefacts of late 19th-century playing culture.
This piece brings exactly that historical character back into a collection or display – a functional device and at the same time a genuine witness to traditional card culture.
