This historic playing card press dates from the 1890s and reflects the traditional craftsmanship typical of the late 19th century. Such presses were used to smooth and protect card decks after play, keeping them flat and well preserved – a practical accessory for players and collectors of fine playing cards.
The clear two-board construction in solid hardwood represents a robust and durable design and embodies the functional style of the late 1800s.
Two-board construction made from solid hardwood
Hand-cut wooden screw spindles, deeply and cleanly carved
Large square spindle heads, precisely shaped by hand
Classic square guides in the base plate
Historic elongated construction without top cover – typical for presses of the late 19th century
Minor historic chips on the upper thread flanks – a typical age characteristic of early wooden threads; the spindles still operate smoothly and securely
Strong pressing force through two fully functional spindles
Base plate dimensions: approx. 26.5 × 10.5 cm
Height (base to spindle tip): approx. 11.5 cm
